Water where it shouldn’t be?
Geysers, burst pipes and blocked drains across the Helderberg.
Water near electricity?
Keep clear of wet switches, lights and the distribution board. Do not touch them or walk through water to reach them. Move to a dry, safe place and get a qualified electrician’s help.
01Issue · section A–A · 1:100
Where the water comes in.
The main rises from the street, past the stopcock, through the slab and up to the geyser in the roof space. One section, read at three declared scales.
02Fault · roof space · 1:20
A stain under the ceiling.
The reading falls before anything looks wrong. A geyser that has begun to leak shows on the ceiling first and on the gauge second.
03Isolate · stopcock · 1:1
One quarter turn.
The bore leaves the line and everything above the stopcock goes dead. Below it the main is still charged, which is why the drawing colours the two sides differently.
04Separate · assembly · 1:20
What comes off the run.
With the line dead the failed assembly separates along its own joints. Each part is lettered, and each has its own line in what the work costs.
05Tested · roof space · 1:20
Charged again, and tested.
The stain stays. Making the ceiling good is a separate job and it is quoted on site, because nobody can price that from a desk.
